Cuddle Up and Get Ready for Winter!

As winter sets in, scarves and pashminas return to the limelight. My nan taught me how to knit when I was a kid, but my scarves always ended up starting one size and gradually getting fatter and fatter towards the middle until I would eventually give up. I wasn’t the most patient of kids!

Here's one my nan made earlier...for my little nephew

So now I buy my woolen products!

“Pashmina” comes from the Persian word Pashm or Pashmineh meaning “made from wool”. However, for many years it has been generally known as the finest wool (or hair) of a particular breed of goat. Cashmere is the softest and most luxurious fibre in the world to wrap yourself – or someone special in. It comes from the coat of the Capra Hircus goat, native to the Himalayas. Pashmina shawls, made from fine cashmere fibre,  are hand spun, woven and embroidered in Kashmir and Nepal.

Luxury Silk / Cashmere Pashminas from their manufacturers in Nepal, are all handmade, extremely soft and warm pashminas with 30% pure silk to give a touch of elegance. Silk is one of the nature’s strongest natural fibres that makes these shawls durable. The silk is blended with very fine pashmina cashmere giving the shawls a shimmering. Silk’s absorbency makes it comfortable to wear in warm weather and its low conductivity keeps warm air close to the skin during cold weather – so a great way to accessorise for  any formal occasion in summers and winters , alike.

The Wool Company’s 100% Hand spun Cashmere shawls, ethically Handmade in Nepal, are available in myriad colors. The product is made from highly prized ‘downy’ soft Pashmina fleece that comes from the chest and underbelly from one type of goat – the Capra- Hircus hriving at very high altitudes on the Mongolian Plateau in Nepal and Tibet. The goats rely on this extremely fine, but very warm under-layer to keep them warm in sub-zero temperatures. Elegant as a shoulder wrap for a dressy occasion, it is also large enough for snuggling under in the evening, or using whilst travelling as an extra layer in a car, train or plane. It is also very light in weight.

Pashminas from the Wool company make a wonderfully versatile and practical yet most luxurious accessory. Be ready to indulge in the pashmina habit!
