Review – The Body Shop Body Sorbet & Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet

The Body Shop Body Sorbet

Sorbet is my weakness – it’s just so light, flavourful & refreshing!  I’m not much of a dessert person but if you offer me a sorbet (any flavour but mango & lemon are my faves), I’ll always say:  “Yes, please!” and will probably lick my lips until I have that bowl of sorbet resting firmly in my hands.

When I first saw these Body Sorbet products from The Body Shop pop up on the internet on international blogs, I was extremely excited!  After launching in South Africa (and after buying 2 of the 5 Body Sorbet body moisturisers, plus the Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet), I was torn between doing a blog post immediately & doing a review once Winter was over.  My reasoning for this – I didn’t find the Body Sorbet or the Aqua Boost Sorbet products to be hydrating enough to be used during the Winter months.  I tested them for about a week when they first launched and then packed them away to be used during Spring & Summer, as my dry Winter skin needed more hydration than these could offer.

I know these products are probably old news to most of you, but I still wanted to feature them in a review blog post because I think they are fantastic for this time of the year!

We’ll start with my 2 favourite products – the Body Sorbet moisturisers.  These frosty, whipped-textured mousse body moisturisers are unlike any other moisturiser I have ever used before.  They have a refreshing gel-like consistency, which instantly cools the skin upon application, and most importantly, smells utterly delicious!  These Body Sorbet products are perfect for low maintenance gals because they are absorbed almost instantly, and do not leave any type of sticky or greasy residue on the skin.

There are currently 4 scents available: Mango (deliciously fruity), Moringa (the perfect floral fragrance), Strawberry (super sweet, it almost reminds me of a Troll or My Little Pony toy from my childhood) and Satsuma (sweet & zingy).  Although they smell good enough to eat, I don’t think they smell realistically like their real fruit counterparts – strawberry does smell like strawberry, and mango smells like mango but they almost have a like a candied twist to them.

What impresses me most about these is their unique formula – as mentioned before, these are unlike any other body moisturisers I have ever seen.  They all contain 100% organic community fair trade Aloe Vera from Guatemala and provide a burst of moisture to the skin – absolutely perfect for hot Summer days at the beach / pool.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet

Next up we have the Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet – this is a ultra light & fluffy moisturiser for the face.  It’s a new addition to the Vitamin E range and contains hydrating Shea Butter and Wheatgerm Oil.  As with the Body Sorbet products, it feels cool and refreshing & doesn’t leave the skin feeling sticky / oily at all.  I imagine this little pot is going to be lovely for Summer skin hydration after a long day in the sun – but note though, it doesn’t contain an SPF, so I would suggest either applying an SPF on top (if you’re going to use it during the day) or using it to hydrate the skin at night.  If you’re into anti-aging skin care, then this product is unfortunately not going to work for you.

Did you know?   Each pot contains over 2 million aqua spheres to deliver 24-hour hydration the skin.

The Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet does have the signature The Body Shop Vitamin E range scent, and is quite heavily fragranced (for a skin care product).  I’m not sure whether this will be suitable for sensitive skin, as the fragrance might aggravate already sensitised skin.  I have combination skin & find it to be both hydrating and balancing (it gives my skin a semi-matte finish).  If you’re in the market for a lightweight, no-fuss moisturiser to hydrate & refresh your skin – this little guy is definitely for you!

Top Tip:  Pop your Body Sorbet or Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet in the fridge for a cooling boost of moisture when the weather gets hot!

The Body Sorbet body moisturisers retail for R 110,00 & the Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet retails for R 135,00 at The Body Shop stores nationwide.

I’m really hoping there will be a wider variety of scents in the Body Sorbet products soon – I can just imagine how heavenly a Raspberry, or perhaps even a Coconut one will smell.  Love at first whiff!
