  1. Recognise your insecurities

If you want to improve your self-confidence, one of the first steps you have to take is to look at your life and try to recognise what is currently limiting your self-esteem. Don’t be embarrassed. No matter what it is or how small it may seem, write it down so you can face your insecurities head-on on a daily basis and gradually overcome them.

  1. Set meaningful goals

Depending on the severity of your insecurities, building up your self-confidence can take time, but as you set yourself daily goals and invest sincere effort, slowly but surely you will be able to see the difference.

Remember that overcoming your insecurities doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to completely rid yourself of what it is that makes you feel that way. You simply need to learn how to accept your limitations with a positive perspective and then try to set yourself free from whatever it is that may be holding you back.

Although sometimes it can be hard to believe, everybody (yes, that means you!) is good at something. If you don’t know what you’re good at, then it’s time for you to try and find out. Try new things; when you find your talent or something you enjoy, not only will it improve your state of mind, it will also make you feel accomplished. Want to feel confident? Then it is essential that you do more of whatever makes you happy.

When building your self-confidence, it is important to avoid situations that allow others to make you feel inferior. This can be difficult as sometimes those closest to us are responsible for making us feel bad. Remember, people will often treat you exactly as you treat yourself. When trying to become more self-assured, it is essential that you speak positively about yourself and about your future, and that you stand up for yourself. Doing this will help to reinforce those ideas in your mind and subliminally improve your confidence.

Not only should you feel proud of your talents and your skills, you should also think about the things that make your personality great. It could be your sense of humour, your compassion, your listening skills or your ability to cope under stress. You may not think that there’s anything about your personality worth admiring, but if you dig deep, you’ll realise that you have plenty of admirable qualities. Focus on them by writing them down.
